HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FROM THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA AT NATURAL DISASTERS IN 2005
Abstract
The year 2005 could be called a year of natural disasters, since we witnessed an increase of 18 percent in the number of disasters. Many people were killed in them, many more were affected and there was enormous material and financial loss. Less developed countries in particular cannot cope with the effects of such tragic events, which have an economic and social impact on their development. In 2005, the Republic of Slovenia provided humanitarian assistance to many countries that were affected by disasters. The article describes some of these cases, specifically the tsunami in Southeast Asia, floods in Rumania, the hurricane in the United States of America and the earthquake in Pakistan.
