Abstract
An international conference took place 250 years after the 1755 earthquake which destroyed Lisbon, the capital of Portugal on November 1, 1755. Scientists, engineers, historians, philosophers, urban planners, architects, economists, policy makers, presented their own views of natural disasters and how society must deal with them.
