HIGH WATERS IN SLOVENIA IN 2004
Abstract
High waters on Slovenian rivers and high sea levels along the Slovenian coast occurred in normal period of the year 2004. The frequency of the high waters was typical. High waters occurred in springtime, torrent floods in late summer and major floods in autumn. The major foods in 2004 occurred practically in the same days as floods in 1990 and 1998 in the end of October and first days of November. Unfortunately high water of Gradaščica river cause a human casualty. Some of the rivers flooded also on non-characteristic flooding area reaching maximal discharge of up to 20 years return periods. High sea levels along the Slovenian coast frequently flooded lower parts of the coast, especially in May.
