EARTHQUAKES IN SLOVENIA IN 2003
Abstract
Earthquake activity was moderate in 2003. People felt more than 54 earth tremors, but not all the hypocentres were on Slovene territory. The most powerful earthquake was on 31 May at 05:59 UTC date time or 07.59 Central European summer time with hypocentre in the vicinity of Dolenje Karteljeve (in Dolenjsko). Its local magnitude was 3.3 (ARSO, 2003-2004), and the highest intensity V-VI EMS-98. On 29 March at 17:43 UTC date time or 18.43 Central European time, the area of the island of Jabuk (Croatia) was powerful shaken. In terms of local magnitude (5.5), this was the most powerful earthquake felt by the inhabitants of Slovenia.
