ABUNDANT RAINFALL IN 2004
Abstract
In October 2004 there were two precipitation events that caused floods in Slovenia. During both events, the precipitation maximum was located in the western part of the country (Figure 3 and Figure 4). The first event was between 9th and 11th October, when the 2-day precipitation accumulation in Škofjeloško hribovje and Polhograjsko hribovje exceeded 20 years return periods (Table 1). During the second event (between 29th October and 1st November) the precipitation intensities did not exceed the 2-year return period, but due to the large amount of water from the previous event, there were many torrential floods and landslides in the area of Cerkno and Idrija. At the end of the second event, even larger rivers (Sava and Krka ) flooded in parts of their streams.
