Abstract

Windiness was below average in Slovenia in 2002. Material damage was mostly caused by storm winds and the bora wind in the Primorska region. In November, very strong winds from the south blew over a large part of Slovenia, causing substantial damage. Due to the strong bora wind, the Ajdovščina-Podnanos mainroad was closed for heavy vehicles over 8 tons for a period of 18 days. The strongest bora winds reached speeds of over 100 km/h. At least one truck was overturned (4th December, near Podnanos). Heavy storms accompanied by strong winds causing damage occurred on 24 June over Ljubljana and the Dolenjska and Bizeljsko regions, and from 22-24 July over Ljubljana and the Dolenjska, Bela Krajina and Primorska regions. Fallen trees damaged many cars and obstructed traffic after falling on roads.
