EARTHQUAKES IN SLOVENIA IN 2002
Abstract
There was a significant amount of seismic activity in 2002. The population experienced 54 tremors, through the epicentres were never on Slovenian territory. The strongest earthquake was on 2 June at 13.37 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) or 15.37 Central European Time (CET) with an epicentre near Koritnica. The local magnitude was 3.8 on the Richter scale (ARSO 2002-2003), the greatest intensity was Level V on the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS-98). On 14 February at 03.18 UTC or 04.18 CET there was a strong earthquake at Moggio Udinese in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The local magnitude of 4.5 made it the strongest earthquake felt in Slovenia in 2002.
