OPENING OF THE SEISMIC MONITORING STATIONS NETWORK IN NW SLOVENIA
Abstract
On July 30, 2003, Janez Kopač, M.Sc., Minister of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy, opened one of five seismic monitoring stations in the coastal area of Slovenia. The opening was in Čadrg, a picturesque village above Tolmin. The remaining four stations are Robič near Kobarid, Javornik on the Javorniki plateau, a renovation in Vojsko and Knežji dol above Ilirska Bistrica on the southern part of the coast. The most important stations for Slovenian seismology are those at Čadrg and Robič which are in the upper area of the Soča, one of the most active seismic areas in Slovenia. This is the first time seismic monitoring stations have been set up in this area. Dr. Andreja Čerček-Hočevar, director of the Environmental Agency, was also present at the Minister’s speech.
