ALCOHOL AND TRAFFIC SAFETY
Abstract
Driving under the influence of alcohol is an important factor of road accidents. Each third driver who caused a fatal accident in the past five years had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Each fourth driver had been driving under the influence of alcohol in accidents with heavy injuries, and each tenth driver in other accidents. In the period from 1991 to 2000, drunken driving claimed more than 1200 lives and resulted in damages exceeding 200 billion Slovene tolars.
