PREPAREDNESS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE RISKS AT ENTRY POINTS INTO THE COUNTRY
Abstract
International airports and ports are important junctures not only for the transport of people and cargo, but also for the entry of infectious diseases through infected passengers, animals or even objects and food. Infectious diseases have an incubation period; this is the period when a person is already infected, but does not yet have symptoms. During this time, the disease is already spreading. We had such cases of spread in the Covid-19 pandemic, which began in 2020. Countries are obliged to recognize the risks of infectious diseases and, in accordance with International Health Regulations, prepare action algorithms and follow them. In this article, we discuss the implementation and effectiveness of security measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases when entering and leaving Slovenia, together with the experiences of the past years at the port, airport and ground crossings.
