Abstract

This paper presents the activities of an interdisciplinary student project for sustainable development, which involved mentors and students from the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering and Geodesy, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia. We designed and assembled a physical rainfall simulator, which enables research into rainfall, soil erosion, and rainfall interception. The project has resulted in a working portable rainfall simulator which can be used for both research and teaching purposes, as it provides students with valuable insights into hydro-meteorological processes and a better understanding of their potential consequences, which in nature can be reflected in the form of hazards (e.g. floods and landslides). This paper briefly outlines the main objectives of the project and the project activities carried out to produce the physical rainfall simulator.
