Abstract

This article presents the activities of the entire Slovenian Red Cross (SRC) network in response to the August 2023 floods, where the SRC acted as the first provider of assistance to the public authorities, both within the framework of the Slovenian Civil Protection and as an independent humanitarian organization. It is important to note the involvement of the SRC as part of the Slovenian Civil Protection system, where the SRC actively participated in the response to the floods with its professional staff, helped to set up and operate the accommodation centre in Rečica ob Savinji, provided psychological first aid, and distributed humanitarian and technical assistance. Above all, the aim is to present the SRC as a reliable partner and first provider of assistance to the public authorities within the protection, rescue and relief system in the Republic of Slovenia, as we are aware of the importance of a coordinated response to large-scale disasters.
