INVENTORY OF LANDSLIDE DATA AND STATUS IN 2023
Abstract
A review of landslides in individual years has not been systematically conducted in Slovenia before now, as the data are collected within various organizations and for different purposes. To illustrate the state of landslides in 2023 and present the limited compatibility of the relevant data sources, we extracted information from four different data collection systems related to landslide inventories or associated events and compared them. Based on these comparisons, we estimate that more than 3000 landslides were reported nationwide in 2023. Landslide field verifications show that the actual number of triggered landslides was certainly much higher. This is the first attempt to quantify landslides in a single year and compare how the different systems record them. The results show that the systems are designed professionally and fulfil their purpose. The centralized recording of landslides is essential to determine the actual state of landslides in Slovenia.
