Abstract

In 2023, earthquake activity in Slovenia was average compared to the data of the last 20 years. The Seismic Network of the Republic of Slovenia recorded 1994 local earthquakes. There were 36 earthquakes with a local magnitude equal to or higher than 2.0. The strongest earthquake with the epicentre in Slovenia in 2023 had a local magnitude of 3.3 and occurred on 11 September at 13:21 UTC near Levpa in the municipality of Kanal ob Soči. Its maximum intensity was IV EMS-98. The maximum intensity in Slovenia in 2023 was V EMS-98, reached by an earthquake on 28 July at 17:34 UTC with a local magnitude of 4.0 and the epicentre near Trstenik (Croatia), near the Slovenian border. In 2023 the inhabitants of Slovenia felt at least 236 local earthquakes and 9 regional earthquakes (two with the epicentre in Croatia, one in Bosnia and Herzegovina, two in Austria and four in Italy).
