NAJMOČNEJŠI POTRESI PO SVETU LETA 2023
Povzetek
Leta 2023 je bilo po svetu 55 potresov magnitude 6,5 ali več. Noben potres ni imel magnitude, večje ali enake 8,0, devetnajst pa jih je imelo magnitudo med 7,0 in 7,9. Vsaj 29 potresov je zahtevalo človeška življenja, skupaj je bilo vsaj 64.343 žrtev, kar je največ po letu 2010. Večino življenj sta zahtevala dva močna potresa z žariščem v jugovzhodni Turčiji, v bližini meje s Sirijo, ki sta se zgodila 6. februarja le nekaj ur narazen na različnih segmentih Vzhodnoanatolskega prelomnega sistema. Prvi izmed njiju je bil z magnitudo 7,8 tudi najmočnejši potres leta 2023. Veliko življenj je bilo izgubljenih tudi septembra v Maroku in oktobra v Afganistanu. Najmočnejši potres v Evropi (MW = 5,6) se je zgodil 14. februarja z žariščem v bližini kraja Leleşti v Romuniji.
