TURBIDITY OF SLOVENIAN RIVERS IN 2018
Abstract
Turbidity is a reflection of the amount of suspended matter in water. The dynamics of changing the turbidity of a river depend on all the hydrological events in the river, on the intensity and location of precipitation in the hinterland, on the geological composition of the soil, and on many other factors. With increased turbidity, the living conditions for aquatic organisms change. When, with increasing opacity, the displacement of suspended matter also causes pollutants to move along the riverbed, the living conditions in the river change sginifcantly, sometimes even fatally. In 2018, the turbidity in Slovene rivers was increased several times. The most common causes were an increase in opacity due to natural processes.
