INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE MIGRANT SITUATION IN SLOVENIA 2015-2016

Abstract

Due to the scope and complexity of the migrant situation in Slovenia in the 2015–2016 period, the country, in addition to having engaged all its national resources, requested for international assistance. The paper presents the coordination of assistance provided through international mechanisms and organizations. The assistance provided, which focused primarily on the accommodation and the care of the migrants, was managed by the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief. Slovenia received assistance from numerous countries, the European Union, international organizations and the different humanitarian organizations. The most challenging aspects were the coordination of the different types and forms of assistance and the direction of activities of different international actors.
