THE EARTHQUAKE IN BREGINJ AND THE FIRE ON A PASSENGER SHIP IN KOPER EXERCISES
Abstract
The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, its thirteen regional offices and response units included in the disaster management system dedicated a lot of their time and money to the different forms of education and training for first responders also in 2016. It is the first responders who help other people if the latter are affected by natural and other disasters at home or abroad. The paper presents two exercises; the May exercise on the topic of the earthquake that effected the Posočje region forty years ago, almost completely demolishing the Breginj village. The second exercise, conducted in October, was a simulation of a fire on a large tourist passenger ship that landed in the Port of Koper.
