EARTHQUAKES IN 2015
Abstract
The 25th annual publication “Earthquakes in the year 2015”, published by the Seismology and Geology Office of the Slovenian Environment Agency, features eight professional articles from different fields of seismology. Three articles describe the Slovenian seismological network and its operation in 2015. The main article is devoted to the earthquake activity during that year. The strongest earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.2 and an intensity of VII EMS-98, occurred on 1 November in the Gorjanci Mountains. Two articles describe its seismological characteristics including the aftershock sequence, and the earthquake’s effects, with severe damage to some older buildings with poor seismic resistant design. The next article presents the focal mechanisms of some of the stronger earthquakes in Slovenia, and the last one the world’s largest earthquakes in 2015.
