15TH NATIONAL EVALUATION OF FIRST AID TEAMS’ COMPETENCES

Abstract

On 3 October 2009, the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for civil protection and disaster relief and the Main committee of the Slovenian Red Cross organized the fifteenth national evaluation of the training level of first aid teams functioning as part of Civil protection and Red Cross units in Kranj. The aim of the evaluation was to intensify first aid activities in municipalities, organisations, institutes and companies (through team building, personnel structure augmentation, training for members, equipping, etc.) in order to improve the existing first aid organization in Slovenia. In case of major natural and other disasters the society can unexpectedly be faced with a big number of injured and sick people, but also with the circumstances preventing professional medical services to have quick access to the affected population. During such situations, the protection, rescue and relief forces including first aid teams come to the foreground.
