DEBRIS FLOW BELOW MANGART

Abstract

Due to the immensity of the natural disaster at Log pod Mangartom, the Civil Protection Commander appointed, after previous consultations with the Government of Slovenia, two expert groups, one for geotechnics and the other for hydrotechnics and torrent control. Their task was to evaluate the hazard of further debris flows and other perils related to this phenomena. They were also encouraged to evaluate and propose possible protective measures and maintenance measures for eliminating the consequences of the debris flow. This article presents the conclusions and proposals of the expert group for hydrotechnics and torrent control. The article also focuses on the implemented intervention measures and gives recommendations for further action.
