MOBILE PUBLIC ALERTING SYSTEM IN LOG POD MANGARTOM
Abstract
Due to the high risk of landslide recurrence, a special mobile public alerting system was set up in Log pod Mangartom. The system was built in three phases. In the first phase, immediately following the disaster, an improvised, manually operated sirene system was installed. In the second phase, the improvised sirenes were replaced with mobile sirenes, which were linked to a uniform, remote-controlled system. In the third phase, an integral, automatic landslide detection system was installed. This system automatically triggers an alarm in the event of major shifts of land masses in the landslide area. Because of the emergency situation, the entire system had to be built expeditiously and was completed in record time. In addition, the system had to function continuously during the upgrading phase. The system was designed at the Slovene Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, and constructed and set up by the companies Tegrad d.d. from Ljubljana and Pepra d.o.o. from Vrhnika.
