FIRE IN THE DAR D.O.O. COMPANY IN KOPER
Abstract
The fire that occurred in Dar d.o.o in Koper was one of the largest structural fires that have ever happened in the area of Slovenian Istria. The fire destroyed a substantial part of the warehouse and production facilities where large quantities of highly flammable materials were stored despite the evidently inadequate fire protection measures. The intervention itself involved a great number of professional, volunteer and industrial firefighters. Considering the poor safety equipment and outdated firefighting techniques firefighters managed to gain control of the fire in a relatively short time. Nevertheless, the accident triggered a wide public polemic about the efficiency of the intervention and the public firefighting service in the area.
