Abstract
The sequel of the study deals with specific diegetic principles of traditional and modern novelistic model and thus supports previously stated conclusions about the nature of the sign in traditional and modem narrative. Stendhal’s and Kafka’s introductory paragraphs serve as an example for demonstration of a given methodology and it tums out that language logic is contiguous in the first case and paradigmatic in the second. It is confirmed that the principles of paradigm and contiguity determine the whole spectrum of narrative characteristics in modem and traditional novel respectively. Final section poses a question about historically related consciousness, i.e. about specific, modernistic concept of truth and reality.
