Universality as Invariability in Comparative Literature: Towards an Integrative Theory of Cultural Contact

The paper analyzes the problem of cultural contact within the comparative framework of the existing dialectic between the universal and the national. The idea of universal invariants, manifesting themselves in the absence of direct influence or dependence is explored mainly in the work of two comparatists of Romanian origin.References
